David Lopez - NapoliWith Napoli increasingly closing the gap on second-placed Roma, midfielder David Lopez has highlighted the confidence their victory over Juventus in the Supercoppa gave the team but insisted they are not settling just for second.

After a difficult start in Naples the Spaniard has secured a regular starting place within the Partenopei first-team and praised fellow countryman and coach Rafael Benitez for improving his game.

“The victory in the Supercoppa against Juventus has given us the confidence we needed,” Lopez told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Objectives ? We do not think of second place, our job is to focus on individual matches and try to win them.

“It was important to have Benitez here, I learn so much from him every day, both as a player and as a person.

“Coming here and be badly received by fans was not easy, but I have proved my worth on the pitch thanks to my teammates.”

As well as securing Champions League qualification Napoli are also defending their Coppa Italia crown against Inter on Wednesday night and the 25-year-old expects the San Paolo to play a big part in reaching the semi-finals.

“It will be a major challenge, a single match where the venue will be a crucial factor.”
