Celtic coach Ronny Deila says that his team’s Europa League tie with Inter will be the “game of the season” for the Scottish champions.

The Nerazzurri travel to Celtic Park on Thursday night for a repeat of the 1967 European Cup final in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League, and the Hoops boss cannot wait for the occasion.

“For us it will be the game of the season, we’re playing against a great opponent,” Deila told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I remember the European Cup final of 1967; times have changed but we maintain the spirit of that team.”

The 39-year-old insists that Inter are a top side and that the Bhoys must make the most of the home leg if they are to progress to the Round of 16.

“We have to make the most of the game at home. We play in front of 60,000 fans, that’s one of our strengths,” said Deila.

“Inter are a great team at the European level, they know the psychological ups and downs [of playing at that level].

“In Scotland we want to win on all fronts. In Europe, we will try to go as far as we can.

“We are in a transition phase but the enthusiasm and youth can help Scottish football to take off again.”
