Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has said that a stadium project in Genoa would be dedicated to the fans.

The 63-year-old has spoken about working on a new stadium for the Blucerchiati on numerous occasions but Genoa mayor Marco Doria has opposed Ferrero’s previous idea of constructing a stadium by the Genoa marina.

Ferrero would like work on improving the Stadio Luigi Ferraris instead and he wants Genoa and Sampdoria to own the stadium and not the local council.

“To approve a stadium project in Genoa is for the fans and for those who believe in me. Years of work = credit. They are the ideas that move the world. Forza Samp,” Ferrero said on Twitter.

Sampdoria have played at the Stadio Ferraris since the club was formed by a merger between Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria in 1946.
