Genoa chairman Enrico Preziosi was furious with what he perceived to be another officiating error that cost his side points in the 1-1 draw with Fiorentina on Saturday afternoon.

The two sides battled out for a well-earned point, but Preziosi was adamant that these continual refereeing errors in recent weeks were having an impact on his side’s morale and results.

“Refereeing errors do count, because there are interests and the table to protect,” Preziosi told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“In football the team that plays the best football doesn’t always win, but there is a serious discussion to go on about the errors [of the officials].

“When these incidents go against Genoa, they are downplayed by the media.

“This myth of refereeing mistakes evening themselves out over the course of a season needs to be abandoned.

“If you keep drawing or losing when you should’ve won, it does have an effect on the morale of the team.

“In the last few games, we haven’t won any because of refereeing errors.”
