Hellas Verona midfielder Emil Hallfredsson has said that he was extremely happy when he renewed his contract with the Serie A side.

The 30 year old Iceland international has been a regular starter for the Gialloblu since joining the club from Reggina in 2011, and has scored 12 goals in over 113 appearances.

“Verona was a lifestyle choice,” said the player on Trasmisisone Telenuovo.

“I was not happy in Reggio Calabria, and when I was asked to come to Verona I immediately said yes even though the team was in Lega Pro.

“It was the most important year for me.”

Hallfredsson had renewed his contract with Verona last year, though there was speculation he might leave the club.

“My choice was to stay in Verona. The newspapers have talked about it so much, but the truth is that I was expecting the club to agree [a deal] with my agent.

“My first choice was Verona and when we reached an agreement, I was the happiest person in the world.

Hallfredsson also spoke about his special feelings for the Gialloblu fans and his admiration for the club colors.

” I always have special feelings for them [the fans] and for the colors yellow and blue, I have been here for five years and I feel good.

“When I arrived I did not believe that this adventure would last so long.

“The city is beautiful, I live near our coach, when I train I’m with my wife and my son.

The player also said that he would return to Iceland once his playing career ends.

“I’ll be back in Iceland, but I’d like to buy a house here, to come back twice a year.”
