Inter and Celtic are to be charged by UEFA in relation to incidents which took place during the second leg of their Europa League tie.

Both clubs found themselves in hot water with the authorities due to fan behaviour inside the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Thursday evening, while the Glasgow club also face a further charge over their team’s alleged improper conduct which led to a spate of cards.

Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk was sent off in the first half for two bookable offences while team-mates Craig Gordon, Adam Matthews, Kris Commons, Emilio Izaguirre and Nir Bitton all found their way into the referee’s notebook.

The issues in the stands were caused by travelling supporters setting off flares inside the stadium and Nerazzurri fans were also blamed for the use of fireworks.

Hosts Inter won 1-0 on the night, and 4-3 on aggregate, thanks to a Fredy Guarin strike to take them into the next stage of the competition where they’ll face Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

A date of March 19 has been set for the case to be heard.
