Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella praised his side for the effort they put in the 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night.

La Viola secured progression to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League by an aggregate score of 3-1, and the former Roma striker also spoke well of goalscorer Mohamed Salah.

“At the start we were weaker than Tottenham mentally, even if they didn’t create many chances,” he said.

“But in the second half we took on a different mindset and created chances that put them in difficulty.

“In the centre of midfield we missed Borja Valero and Matias Fernandez but everyone put in a great effort.

“Salah? He’s devastating when he runs at you on the break, even if he starts from 40 or 50 metres out.”
