Higuain - Napoli v GenoaNapoli advanced through to the semi-final of the Coppa Italia as they beat Inter 1-0 at the Stadio San Paolo on Wednesday evening.

A late, late Gonzalo Higuain goal continued Inter’s recent bad form, as Rafael Benitez’s men now face a match with Lazio in next round.

Jose Callejon of Napoli was presented with the first opportunity of the match, when an Inter attack broke down and the Spaniard’s dribble ended with a disappointing shot straight into the keeper’s hands.

Marek Hamsik then crossed in a perfectly placed ball for Higuain, but the Napoli attacker couldn’t direct his header towards goal and a golden opportunity was wasted.

Inter came closest to scoring in the first half, though, when a Mauro Icardi volley hit the post.

Recent Inter signing Xherdan Shaqiri then had a chance when he cut in from the right wing but his curled effort was saved by Mariano Andujar.

A Hamsik shot was then parried by Inter keeper Juan Pablo Carrizo but he managed to keep Higuain from knocking the rebound in a few seconds later.

Napoli ended the first half the stronger side, with Kalidou Koulibaly missing from a couple of yards out, but both teams went into the break keeping clean sheets.

The next half an hour contained a few blocked shots but nothing to hugely excited the crowed before a quarter of an hour from time.

A David Lopez volley then provoked excitement for the Napoli fans but it went just wide of the goal.

However, just 90 seconds from full time, Partenopei talisman Higuain showed great composure to slot the ball home from a long throw in, to put Napoli through.
