Torino
Daniele Padelli – 6 – Spectator
Dealt comfortably with Silvestre’s header early in the game and had little to trouble him there after. Was caught out when Obiang scored a late consolidation goal, ruining what had been a perfect day.
Bruno Peres – 7 – Inspired
Made his share of penetrating runs into the opposition half, but gave away some needless fouls in dangerous positions. Got his cross into the middle for Amauri to bundle home and then beat Viviano quite brilliantly having ghosted into the penalty area.
Cesare Bovo – 6.5 – Untroubled
The former Palermo defender was effective in his defending, even when he had to clear up after Bruno Peres. Very nearly caught Viviano out at his near post from a free kick.
Kamil Glik – 7 – Stalwart
Characteristically brave and provided a stable base of operations at the back. Looked to get the better of Okaka and effectively man marked the striker. Fouled in the opposition’s penalty area but Silvestre to earn his side a penalty.
Emiliano Moretti – 6.5 – Faultless
Credited with an early assist when his flick on went into the path of Quagliarella in the box. Calm in his defensive work and timed his slide tackles very well.
Marco Benassi – 7 – Creator
One of the busier players on the pitch, being called on to help out in attack and defense. Picked out Quagliarella perfectly for the striker to score his third.
Alessandro Gazzi – 6.5 – Workhorse
The hard working midfielder picked up an early booking for a blatant foul on Okaka. Battled hard for the rest of the game and rarely made mistakes or surrendered ground.
Alexander Farnerud – 6 – Tireless
The Swede helped bulk up the midfield and added a touch of tenacity in the defending. Made some excellent interceptions and generally worked very industriously in the midfield.
Matteo Darmian – 6 – Consistent
Saw his early attempt from range sail over the bar disappointingly. Did a lot of the hard grafting on the wing and kept De Silvestri in check.
Josef Martinez – 5.5 – Frustrating
Endured a rough start to the game, squandering a good chance to double the host’s lead when he dragged his shot wide. Found himself easily forced off the ball, but tried to compensate for his fragility by feeding his teammates passes.
Fabio Quagliarella – 7.5 – Hero
Gifted the opener when a flick on from Moretti left him with the easiest of finishes before sneaking his penalty past Viviano to double his side’s lead. Dispatched his third goal with fantastic technique completing a wonderful day for the 32 year-old.
Substitutes
Maxi Lopez – 6 – Unlucky
Came on in the place of Martinez, tried to combine with the wingers and get in on the goal bonanza. For all his effort the Argentinian was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet.
Amauri – 7 – Poacher
The former Juventus striker came on in place of hat-trick hero Quagliarella and was soon in among the goals himself.
Omar El Kaddouri – N/A
Sampdoria
Emiliano Viviano – 5.5 – Humbled
Was left for dead when Quagliarella opened the scoring. Completely beaten when Quagliarella and Amauri scored but was left questioning where his defense had gone on what was a tough day.
Lorenzo De Silvestri – 5.5 – Poor
Had a quiet opening half by his standards as he was restricted. Was a source of complaint when he appeared to catch Darmian late in a challenge. Had more luck getting into Torino’s half.
Matias Silvestre – 5 – Scapegoat
Put under some early pressure, was left at sea when Quagliarella opened the scoring. Made a calamitous mistake when he charged into the back of Glik in the box, resulting in a penalty before continuing his struggles.
Vasco Regini – 5.5 – Slow
Halted an early run into the area with excellent composure. Was guilty of letting Quagliarella out of his sight when the striker scored his third goal. His reaction speed left a lot to be desired but he was asked to do a great deal over the ninety minutes.
Alessio Romagnoli – 5.5 – Inexperienced
Uncompromising and effective in clearing his lines, clashed heads with Martinez and tried to bring the ball forward when he could. Disappeared altogether for Quagliarella’s third goal. Showed glimpses of his inexperience.
Angelo Palombo – 6.5 – Composed
Dictated play in the centre of the pitch and looked to involve Obiang and Soriano as best he could. Narrowed the angles Torino had to attack and controlled his area forcing the hosts to play out wide.
Pedro Obiang – 6.5 – Energetic
Full of running and chose his passes carefully, but couldn’t influence play enough to unlock the Torino defense and feed the strikers. Scored a consolation goal with fifteen minutes remaining.
Roberto Soriano – 5.5 – Invisible
Largely ineffective in the first half, wasn’t afforded the room to make penetrating runs into the box. Only action of note in the second half was accidentally striking Darmian on the nose.
Gonzalo Bergessio – 5.5 – Isolated
Had little impact in the first half and became isolated at times, continued to struggle to influence the game and was eventually replaced by Duncan.
Stefano Okaka – 6 – Unrewarded
Looked to impose himself on the Torino defenders, using his speed and strength to burst forward. Grew ever more frustrated as the match dragged on and saw less and less of the ball.
Eder – 5.5 – Anonymous
Missed the chance to find an equalizer when his free kick fizzed wide. Tried to combine with his teammates in attack but couldn’t do so effectively.
Substitutes
Aldred Duncan – 6 – Calming
Came on in the place of Bergessio to add some energy and added an extra dimension in the midfield.
Samuel Eto’o – 6 –
The former Barcelona and Inter striker came on for his Sampdoria debut in the place of Eder. Had a late chance to score from a free kick but his shot hit the Torino wall.
Nenad Krsticic – N/A
