After widespread demands for him to resign his position with the FIGC, it has emerged that Lazio president Claudio Lotito could face further, and perhaps more serious repercussions, as a result of the taped phone call controversy which erupted earlier this month.

The 57-year-old has been roundly condemned in Italy after a recorded telephone conversation was leaked to the press in which he claims that he wields ultimate authority over the game’s official governing bodies in the country.

The Biancocelesti patron is then heard deriding the promotion efforts of smaller Serie B teams whilst also threatening Pino Iodice, the director of Ischia Isolaverde, with whom he is having the conversation.

Il Mattino understands that the nature of those aggressive comments made towards Iodice have aroused the attention of the authorities. The newspaper reports that the public prosecutor’s office in Naples has begun gathering evidence against Lotito, although the publication does stress that no official investigation has yet been launched.

Lotito currently serves as the Serie A representative within the FIGC and also acts as a close adviser to federation president Carlo Tavecchio.
