Roma forward Juan Iturbe is expected to miss out on at least six weeks of Serie A action after suffering a knee injury.

The Argentine was subbed off in the first half against Empoli after spraining his right knee and suffering collateral ligament damage, but was reportedly lucky to escape without his season ending prematurely.

In the immediate hours after the fixture, the Giallorossi management feared that the player would require surgery, but this is not the case according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report places the 21-year-old’s injury layoff at 45 days, meaning the player could next taste Serie A action away at strugglers Cesena on March 22, missing six league matches during that period on the sidelines.

Iturbe’s recovery will be focused through both physiotherapy and gym sessions, as coach Rudi Garcia looks to have the player raring to go upon his comeback.

The player had featured 11 times for Roma in the league this season, but has struggled with injuries and fitness.
