Miralem Pjanic is unlikely to face a ban after his punching incident with Empoli’s Mario Rui was not caught on camera, as the angle of the footage offered no conclusive evidence.

With the two sides locked at 1–1, Roma continued to press and Pjanic appeared to punch Mario Rui, who fell to the ground, however none of the officials saw the incident and as a result, Pjanic went unpunished.

The TV footage from Sky Sport Italia only showed the contact from behind and it was not possible to see exactly what took place, meaning that it will be highly unlikely that any punishment will be handed to Pjanic.

Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri was dismissed for his protestations to the match officials after the event, as well as he felt the decision not to award a penalty for his side earlier was unfair.
