Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero is adamant that Palermo counterpart Maurizio Zamparini, threatened him with death.

The 63-year-old says he was threatened and insulted by his La Rosa counterpart and over the transfer of Rosanero captain Edgar Barreto, who is out of contract in the summer and has been linked to the Blucerchiati.

“He threatened me with death and insulted me,” he told Sky Sport Italia following his side’s 1-1 draw with Genoa.

“If he has something to tell me, he should do it in person otherwise he seeks only attention because he knows if he mentions Ferrero it will finish on TV.

“I was offended, he sent me threatening messages.

“He is a man of a certain vintage,” he said.

The Italian firmly believes the heads of the sports justice will intervene after his recent incident with Inter President Thohir.

“I got three months [suspension] because I called Thohir ‘Filipino’ yet he is Indonesian,” he continued.

“I get along with all the presidents who are not as bad as him.”

“Now the sports justice will intervene,” he said.

Yet he is adamant the acquisition of midfielder Edgar Barreto highlights why Zamparini should be examined by the Italian football authorities.

“Zamparini needs to have his conscience examined and see how many players he has taken from other clubs in a non-elegant way,” he continued.

“I have tackled it with fair play, I called him.”

Yet Ferrero believes despite the drama, his side did well to come away with a point from the derby.

“We both had many scoring chances, so for this I think a draw was the best result.”
