Sassuolo defender Emanuele Terranova will miss the remainder of this season due to a cruciate ligament injury suffered in the Serie A clash with Inter last weekend.

Terranova was injured during his side’s 3-1 home victory, which avenged the 7-0 drubbing at the hands of the Nerazzurri earlier in the campaign.

Tuttosport estimate he will require six months of rehabilitation before making a return following a serious injury suffered for the second year in succession.

The 27-year-old centre-back will be operated on at Villa Stuart in Rome on Tuesday before setting off on the road to recovery.

Though not a regular, the former Lecce and Frosinone man has appeared nine times in Serie A for the side who currently sit in a highly creditable 11th spot.

Sassuolo next face European chasers Sampdoria away from home on Sunday, as they bid to continue the impressive form which has seen them lose just once in their last six games.
