Round 22 of the Serie A season saw Roma get back to winning ways against Cagliari and Juventus dispose of AC Milan in Turin.

Napoli and Inter also registered wins whilst Fiorentina edged out Atalanta in a five goal thriller, while Genoa defeated fellow Champions League hopefuls Lazio 1-0 in the Monday night action

The formation chosen for the Team of The Week is a 4-3-3 with Alvaro Morata spearheading the attack and an all Italian back four.

Luca Antonelli moves from his usual left back slot to the right, enabling Emiliano Moretti to play on that side of the defence.

Andrea Consigli – Sassuolo (2 Team of The Week appearances)

Could possibly have shown quicker reflexes to prevent Sampdoria’s opening goal but was crucial for the remainder of the game in helping his team earn a point. Denied Eder on numerous occasions including an excellent fingertip save in the first half.

Luca Antonelli – AC Milan

A solid debut display from the full back following his return to the Rossoneri. Scored a goal with a well taken header and had the character and personality to ask for the ball and remain an outlet down the left flank.

Team of the Week 22Giorgio Chiellini – Juventus

A dominant display from the big centre back against AC Milan. Won everything in the air and kept Giampaolo Pazzini under wraps when he came on for the injured Jeremy Menez.

Lorenzo Tonelli – Empoli

The 25-year-old was excellent in Empoli’s 2-0 win over Cesena. Set the tone with a crunching block in the opening exchanges and was faultless from then on in.

Emiliano Moretti – Torino

Maintained his concentration against a Verona side that dominated for large spells but ultimately created little. Was nearly always positioned correctly and also played a superb through ball to team-mate Josef Martinez enabling him to win a penalty.

Fredy Guarin – Inter

Opened the scoring with a bullet header and was a threat in the final third with his pace and sheer physicality. Provided a late assist with a neat cross for Mauro Icardi and also managed to launch a couple of his trademark wayward long-range shots during the course of the ninety minutes.

Seydou Keita – Roma (2 apps)

Not a headline grabbing display but still a crucial one in enabling Roma to grind out three points at Cagliari.  Released the fleet-footed Daniele Verde on several occasion when the Giallorossi were pressing for the opening goal and then slowed the game down intelligently as they looked to see the game out.

Marco Benassi – Torino

The former Inter youngster was excellent in pressing high up the pitch and winning the ball, an instance in which resulted in the first goal of the game. He also made some intelligent late runs into the box. A mature performance

Daniele Verde – Roma

An encouraging display from the young starlet. Playing in a wide forward role he caused the opposing Cagliari defenders problems with his pace and skill. Provided two assists, the first a lovely chipped ball for Adem Ljajic and the second a first time cross for fellow youngster Leandro Paredes.

Dries Mertens – Napoli

The Belgian, handed a rare start was instrumental in helping the Azzurri defeat Udinese. Opened the scoring with a trademark slalom dribble and finish and was also involved in creating the third goal when his free kick was deflected in for an own goal.

Alvaro Morata – Juventus (2 apps)

The Spaniard was given a starting spot against AC Milan and did not disappoint. Worked tirelessly off the ball, perhaps something he picked up from Carlos Tevez and showed some nimble footwork when in possesion. Took his goal well and went close to getting a second on a couple of other occasions.
