Vazquez Dybala - Sampdoria v palermoIn-form Palermo front-man Franco Vazquez admits the appointment of current coach Giuseppe Iachini was the catalyst to his revival at the Rosanero.

The 25-year-old Argentinian was brought to the club in 2012 from Belgrano, but failed to convince under a number of coaches during his first few years in the Serie A.

Vazquez reveals Iachini’s appointment in January last year ‘changed everything’, after being left out of the squad list by then-coach Gennaro Gattuso for the first half of the season.

“In January a year ago I thought I’d give it all up,” Vazquez admitted to Sport Week.

“I had decided to return to Argentina where I had already shown what kind of player I was, and where I knew I would find a club willing to take a chance on me.

“Then came Iachini and it changed everything. What was said? A couple of words at the end of the second day of training: ‘I saw you and I can not explain how you have not played before. You remain at Palermo’.

“No coach ever told me that, and at that moment I realized that my future was here.

“What happens in the summer? I do not know. I signed a contract recently, but now I only think about ending the league season well.”
