Day two of the Viareggio Cup saw Inter and Torino both pick up wins that see their aspirations of advancing into the tournament’s latter stages no harm at all.

The Nerazzurri were in action against Belgian side Genk and picked up a 3-1 victory with the help of two goals in the closing stages from midfielder Michele Rocca, one of those coming from the penalty spot.

For the Granata, Santos Laguna represented a potentially difficult tie but they won through thanks to second half goals from Francesco Mantovani and Marco Candellone.

Roma could only manage a scoreless draw in their Tuesday afternoon match against Belgrano while Parma, who were fantastic last year thanks to Alberto Cerri’s sharpshooting, put their club’s woes behind them and offered a rare glimmer of hope.

In their match against Pro Duta, they fired home six without reply as Gonzalo Martinez led from the front by firing his way to the top of the competition’s scoring charts with a hat-trick.

Pescara saw off Bologna thanks to a single goal victory while Genoa were at the top of their game with a 4-1 success against Benevento.

Livorno needed a late fightback against Spezia to rescue a point, having found themselves 2-0 down with three minutes to go only for the Amaranto to hit two late goals to earn a draw.

A goal in the first minute for a Serie D Representative squad helped them to a surprising 2-1 win against Empoli.
