Facundo Lescano was the hero for Torino as they defeated Empoli 1-0 in Day Four of the Viareggio Cup.

Torino deservedly won the game and but had goalkeeper Andrea Zaccagno to thank after he tipped over an audacious lob from Empoli striker Roman Tchanturia. Lescano also hit the post, as the Azzurri exited a competition they won back in 2000, while Torino are still yet to concede in this year’s tournament.

The result means the Granata advance to the knockout stages of the tournament after Santos Laguna and Representatives of Serie D could only draw 2-2. The Mexican side were two goals up with just five minutes left to play, but Claudio Sparacello bagged the first on 85 minutes, then in the fourth minute of injury time Tulio Bagatini Marotti grabbed a dramatic equaliser.

Elsewhere, Inter also secured passage to the next round of the tournament after a 3-1 win over Parma. Luca Ravanelli put Hernan Crespo’s Gialloblu ahead, but Boris Rapaic and a double from Gaston Camara gave the Nerazzurri a comfortable victory.

Also in Group 5, Genk smashed Pro Duta 4-0, meaning their final game against Parma will decide who advances with Inter from the group.

Following a 0-0 in their opening game against Belgrano, Roma managed an impressive 5-3 win over Bologne at the Stadio Comunale, with five different Giallorossi players making the scoresheet.

Interestingly, Bologna took the lead after just 12 minutes through Antonio Calabrese, but Edoardo Soleri, Francesco Di Mariano, Lorenzo Di Livio, Jacopo Ferri and Massimo Sammartino put Alberto De Rossi’s men in complete control, with the final four goals coming in nine spectacular first half minutes.

Roma now go into their final game against Pescara knowing that a win or draw will mean they top Group 6, all this after the Delfini drew 1-1 with Belgrano.

Spezia and Livorno are joint top of Group 7 after wins over Benevento and Genoa, respectively. Lorenzo Simonetti got the winner in a 2-1 for Livorno, while Simone Bastoni and Luca Vignali put the Grifone to the sword 2-0.
