Inter and Roma were among the big names to secure their spots in the last 16 of the Viareggio Cup with the knockout round commencing on Tuesday.

The Nerazzurri bested Pro Duta 2-0 thanks to a penalty from Federico Dimarco and another strike from Andrea Palazzi that sees them top the group.

Lorenzo Mitta’s goal for Parma could not stop them crashing to a 2-1 loss against Genk that sees the Ducali sent spinning from the tournament at the first round phase following a promising start.

A goal from 20-year-old Lorenzo Paolucci of Pescara from the penalty spot helped them to a deserved lone goal victory over Roma although the Giallorossi still qualify as runners-up from their group.

Belgrano needed an 88th minute equaliser to claim a point against Bologna while Giuseppe Panico and Alessandro Ponti scored in each half for Genoa as the Grifone eased past Livorno and they too march on to the next round.

Spezia smashed Benevento 6-0 as they went through in emphatic fashion as group winners and they look to be a serious force to be reckoned with in the tournament, Matteo Paccagnini scoring twice.

Torino and the Serie D representative side played out a 1-1 draw that, fittingly, sees both sides qualify to the last 16 while Santos Laguna stunned Empoli 5-2.

Fiorentina’s postponed game against Cremonese was also played and they romped to a 4-0 win, thanks to a brace from Filippo Bandinelli while Cesena beat Nordsjaelland 2-1.
