Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is threatening to sue Sampdoria counterpart Massimo Ferrero after a dispute over midfielder Edgar Barreto.

Ferrero has claimed that Zamparini made a death threat when asking about the availability of Palermo captain Barreto, who is out of contract in the summer.

Now Zamparini is ready to take legal action, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport that he never made such threats to Ferrero.

“It’s crazy, I never threatened to kill him,” Zamparini told the pink newspaper. “I have the messages stored. I will present everything to the Federation and sue him.

“I just told him not to talk to Barreto until we discuss a renewal. And I wrote to him: ‘Bravo, you’ll wait on the bank of the river.’ It was not a threat.”

Ferrero told Sky Sport Italia that he had approached Barreto “with fair play,” adding that he gets along “with all the presidents who are not as bad as [Zamparini].”

Ferrero had his own incident last year after calling Inter’s Indonesian president Erick Thohir a “Filipino”. Ferrero was banned for three months.
