An American consortium is interested in a takeover of AC Milan, but it will not involve the club’s former midfielder David Beckham.

The group wants to purchase 51% of shares in the Rossoneri, but current owner Silvio Berlusconi has said that he is only willing to give up 30% for €300 million.

According to Tuttosport, the consortium behind the deal owns the company which manages the Madison Square Garden in New York, and could lead a prominent role in the club’s plans for a new stadium.

Berlusconi along with representatives from his Fininvest conglomerate have already held negotiations with Thai businessman Bee Taechaubol and will resume talks about the sale of the club after Easter.

Among those also interested in purchasing the club is the Chinese investor Poe Qui Ying Wangsuo, known as ‘Mr Pink’ for the eponymous soft drink sold in the US with which he earned his fortune.

Reports emanating from Romania last Wednesday produced a photograph allegedly showing Berlusconi signing over 51% of the club to the Chinese magnate.

However, Fininvest denied that a deal had been agreed and said that they are not looking to relinquish overall control of the club but are open to forming a partnership with investors interested in a minority stake of the Italian giants.

Milan are currently 10th in Serie A and have been accused of financial downsizing since the sales of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to PSG in 2012.
