Atalanta defender Yohan Benalouane has confirmed he chose to stay at his current club amid serious interest from Inter in January.

The 28-year-old Tunisian joined the Orobici from Parma in the summer outright, and has been a formidable presence in the rearguard for the relegation-threatened outfit.

The Nerazzurri were desperately chasing central defenders to reinforce their squad at the start of the year, and the player confirmed that he was on their shortlist.

“Lately we have been doing well, but we must continue in this manner. On the field, we must do even better,” Benalouane told Sky Sport Italia.

“Interest from Inter? It’s always a pleasure to be courted by a big club, but I’ve always remained calm and focused on helping my team.

“In the future we will see what happens. In January I chose to stay with the club to finish what I had started.

“In the summer if there is something, then we will decide together with the club. The important thing is to give my all on the field.”
