Podolski + Salah - Inter v FiorentinaInter director Piero Ausilio is confident that loan signing Lukas Podolski just needs one goal to kick-start his Nerazzurri career.

The 29-year-old German international joined the club on a temporary basis from Arsenal last month, but is yet to score in nine appearances for Inter, drawing some criticism from coach Roberto Mancini about his output.

His latest blank came in the 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina on Sunday, but Ausilio insists his lack of matches in the first half of the season at the Gunners has played a part in his slow start to his Nerazzurri stint.

“Unfortunately, [his form] comes from so many months of little playing time,” Ausilio told reporters at the post-match press conference.

“The match against Cagliari, he played really well, his performance just lacked a goal.

“Whenever you lose a game, something goes wrong. But no one across the team singles another one out, the coach will figure that out.

“[On Xherdan Shaqiri not starting] He’s a strong and important player for us, but the coach has to make a decision, especially when you have to play Thursday and Sunday.”
