Andrea Bertolacci has withdrawn from the Italian national squad due to injury and will miss Tuesday evening’s friendly with England in Turin.
The Genoa midfielder won his second international cap during Italy’s 2-2 draw with Bulgaria on Saturday but he played for 20 minutes with a dislocated shoulder after one of the Bulgarian players fell on top of the 24-year-old.
It was hoped that he might be fit to face Roy Hodgson’s side but Bertolacci confirmed to Sky Sport Italia on Monday that he had left the Azzurri training camp to return to Genoa and so would not feature against the Three Lions.
“It was great to play with the national team,” the former Roma youth player told reporters.
“I felt great emotion. I’m disappointed about my injury but I need to get it checked out and see what the problem is.”
It is not yet known whether Bertolacci will be available for Udinese’s trip to Genoa on Saturday.
