Gianluigi Buffon ItalyItaly goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon says that time and patience must be allowed as the national side bring through a fresh group of younger players.

The 37-year-old Juventus keeper will start Tuesday’s friendly with England in Turin, and looks positively on the future of the Azzurri as his World Cup winning generation looks to finally subside in the next couple of years.

“I believe that the best way to reach Euro 2016 is to support the younger players who are now beginning their international experience, and we must be aware that it takes patience,” Buffon told the press.

“The last few days have not been the most serene, but it is much better to have energy over apathy as that would be bring inaction and defeat.”

Buffon did not play in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bulgaria, but the veteran remains positive and is looking forward to the clash with the Three Lions.

“This is an eventful period but I hope to serve my country and make the most of these days.

“The player of the moment for England is Harry Kane, we all know he is the bogeyman with [Wayne] Rooney. The quality of England’s attackers gives them many options.”
