Cagliari won’t be bringing veteran coach Zdenek Zemen back to the club despite their current troubles in Serie A.

Gianfranco Zola’s job as the Sardinians’ boss seems safe for now even after a run of four defeats and one draw in their last five league outings, which has left the islanders sitting perilously within the bottom three.

Tuttosport report that a directors’ meeting took place following the loss to Hellas Verona on Sunday in a bid to determine the immediate future of the beleaguered head coach. It was decided to keep faith with the 48-year-old for the moment, but allied with the fact that he must effect a swift turnaround in fortunes to ward off the sack.

It’s believed one of the reasons behind their stance is based on a lack of appetite to reappoint Zemen, who was dismissed in late December having suffered a torrid run of eight winless Serie A fixtures.

Cagliari next travel to high-flying Sampdoria on Saturday as they attempt to pull clear of the relegation zone.
