Giorgio Chiellini believes that Italy made mistakes in their 2-2 draw away in Bulgaria in their Euro 2016 qualifying game.
The result leaves Italy in second place in group H behind Croatia and Chiellini also had his say on the Claudio Marchisio injury controversy.
“We made mistakes against Bulgaria.” Chiellini told Rai after the match.
“We put ourselves in a bad position being 2-1 down but the lads showed great character to rescue a point in the end.”
The Italy team has been in something of a state of turmoil over the past five days with questions over Antonio Conte’s selection of Eder and Franco Vazquez, with the coach also receiving death threats after Claudio Marchisio looked to have torn his anterior cruciate ligament.
“The team and Conte do not deserve what has happened to us this week,” the defender continued.
“The national team should be able to grow without having this controversy.
“Conte is vital for us. He transformed Juventus and he is doing the same thing with Italy.
“Any problems should be put aside for the good of the team.”
