Luigi Di BiagioLuigi Di Biagio was satisfied with his Italy U21 side’s performance against Germany, and wants his players to reach the level of their opponents.

The Azzurrini drew 2-2 with the German youngsters in Paderborn, with Marcello Trotta and Daniele Verde slotting away for the Italians in a tough match, which Di Biagio said he knew would be difficult against a quality German side.

“We knew it would be very difficult,” the 43-year-old told Rai Sport.

“At the start of the match we suffered because of their dribbling and couldn’t close in on attacks.

“At the end of the first half we got better, and started creating chances.”

The Italian was full of praise for the German youth side, though, saying that they were as good as it gets in terms of international football.

“Do not forget that we played against Germany, who are top notch and we want to reach their level.”
