Italy U21 coach Luigi Di Biagio expressed his disappointment at his side’s performance in their friendly loss to Serbia on Monday night.

Luka Milunovic scored the only goal of the game in the second half to give the Serbians the win, and Di Biagio stated that the players were fatigued, having played out a 2-2 draw with Germany on Friday.

“We did not play well,” he said. “In the first half we were negative, we didn’t control the game.

“In the second half we played well despite playing going a man down [when Domenico Berardi was sent off], what worries me most is the performance in the first half.

“What also affected us is that we’re not used to playing every three days,”

Italy are set to face Sweden in their opening game at the U21 European Championships on June 18.
