Nicklas Bendtner was pleased to get on the scoresheet for Wolfsburg against Inter in their Europa League last-16, second-leg tie on Thursday.

Bendtner stepped off the bench in the second half to put the seal on a 2-1 victory on the night, thus taking the German side through to the quarter-finals 5-2 on aggregate.

“Yes, it was nice to score today,” said Bendtner when in conversation with Forza Italian Football.

“In certain situations [being on the bench], you have to bite your tongue, support the team no matter what, and I think I have done this.”

The Dane was pragmatic when quizzed on his club’s chances of going all the way in the Europa League this year following their defeat of Inter.

“There’s just good teams left now, so it’s obviously going to be difficult,” stated Bendtner.

“We will have to see who we get and I think we just have to take it one game at a time.”

As for Wolfsburg’s Serie A opponents, the 27-year-old felt they made matters very difficult for the Bundesliga outfit at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Thursday evening.

“I think this game was more difficult than the first [leg],” continued Bendtner.

“They could’ve scored one or two more, and out of their mistakes we made some goals.

“There was some good goalkeeping [by Diego Benaglio] and they missed some really big chances.

“And, we also missed some really big chances, too. But in the end, I think we deserved to go through.”
