Ghirardi owned the stricken Emilia-Romagna side from 2007 until December of last year when he sold the Ducali to Albanian businessman Rezart Taçi.The club has since changed hands again but the financial turmoil has continued.

The situation is so bad that Parma have been unable to cover recent match day costs leading to the postponement of their last two Serie A fixtures.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the public prosecutors office in Parma has launched an investigation into Ghirardi’s ownership of Parma with the belief that there could be a case of fraudulent bankruptcy in relation to the situation.

The serious financial difficulties which now threaten the existence of the Gialloblu first arose under the 39-year-old’s stewardship when Parma were refused a licence to compete in this year’s Europa League because of unpaid tax.
