Roma boss Rudi Garcia has revealed that he’s remaining focused on having his team return to winning ways in the Serie A starting with their clash against Juventus on Monday.

The Giallrossi have received a giant boost in morale after their Europa League triumph over Feyenoord, which has seen them advance to the tournament’s round of 16, and the tactician is hoping that this newly found confidence can help the capital city club earn a crucial home win over the Bianconeri as they try to keep their hold on second place.

Garcia spoke during his pre-match press conference on Sunday about the importance of securing a positive result against Juventus and mentioned which players he will have available to him, while also commenting on his past statements regarding Roma’s ability to take the Scudetto this season.

“Our victory over Feyenoord was very important for us, we wanted to qualify for the round of 16 and we were able to do it under difficult circumstances,” said the 51-year-old.

“We’re hoping the way we earned that result will be able to help us against Juve tomorrow.

“Obviously we want to beat Juventus, but it will not do much to change our current situation. Our destiny isn’t fully in our hands right now, we can keep second place though.

“Maybe there’s a higher power that wants to punish me for the pride I had shown earlier this season. I had said those things about winning a Scudetto to raise the spirits of a struggling team.

“However, I’m not ashamed of what I said because I think it was needed in order to maintain motivation and give us more ambition.

“The goal is to see Roma become the centre focus of the league just as it is the centre of Italy. We want to still fight for the Scudetto this year, but also, and especially, in the future.

“We’ve had to deal with many injuries and sometimes things just don’t go your way.

“We will try to avoid making any errors against Juve, we’ll just do our best to take advantage of the confidence earned from the victory over Feyenoord.

“Roma really want to get back to winning in the Serie A, there is a great desire to do this as soon as possible.

“Our fans? Those who truly love Roma must always remain behind the players and fully support the team.

“Right now Alessandro Florenzi is back at 100 per cent. Juan Iturbe is close to being fully fit again since his return to the squad and has about 60 minutes in his legs.

“Seydou Doumbia is suffering from pain in his lower back and will not be with us tomorrow. I have so many solutions, though, like Daniele Verde. Maicon is not ready to come back yet, it’s still too soon.

“I want to see a great game, of course we will fight our hardest on the pitch but I really hope to see a great reception from this city while Juve is here.

“Our tactics? I have many lethal players available to me.”
