Roma forward Gervinho wants to see Feyenoord receive a proper punishment after one of the Dutch club’s fans allegedly threw an inflatable banana at him during the Europa League clash between the two sides on February 26.

The 27-year-old, who eventually scored the winning goal for the Giallorossi that would see them advance to the round of 16 with a 2-1 result, has confirmed his disappointment with the continued racism in football and expects UEFA to take action against the Stadionclub immediately.

Gervinho spoke to beIN Sports about the unfortunate incident, which played a part in the round of 32 game being delayed for quite some time in the second half, and commented on the effect it had on him.

“At first I hadn’t noticed that it happened, but then the referee came and spoke to me about it,” said the Ivorian international.

“It’s a bad image for football and I hope that the proper sanctions are imposed. It’s really frustrating for me, as well as for my family.”
