Roma winger Gervinho has insisted that his side is not out of the race for the Scudetto this season.

Despite being nine points adrift of league leaders Juventus, the Ivorian believes that the Giallorossi could still lift the title this season.

Speaking to RAI Sport, the 27-year-old inisted that Roma’s showing against Juventus on Monday night was an indication the team could compete with last season’s champions.

“The team played with the right composure today and now that we’ve achieved a result, we’re calmer,” Gervinho said to RAI Sport.

Despite the strong result against Juventus, the team has been without a win since early February with several players returning from the African Cup of Nations.

Key players Seydou Keita, Seydou Doumbia and Gervinho all missed up to a month of club football due to the tournament with the latter indicating it could have been a disruption to the club’s form.

“The team’s form after the African Cup of Nations? The season was complicated and there are many commitments,” Gervinho said

However the former Arsenal player indicated that the Roman side had no plans of settling for second place.

“It is not over yet, the Roma are a great team, we fight to the end ”

Gervinho is the equal second goal scorer for Roma this season, tied with club legend, Francesco Totti.
