Hodgson stresses importance of the friendly fixture against Italy

roy hodgson englandEngland coach Roy Hodgson has stressed the importance of tomorrow’s friendly fixture against Italy stating that it is the perfect opportunity to evaluate the quality of his squad.

There is an air of anticipation surrounding the match as we await to see Tottenham striker Harry Kane make another appearance in an England shirt and the 67-year-old tactician has stated that the potential paring of the goalscoring starlet and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is one that could prove to be extremely exciting.

“All of the friendly matches are important for us coaches,” said Hodgson in his pre-match press conference.

“It allows for us to access the members of our squad and see who has the ability to be part of the project we have in place.

He then continued: “As for Kane and Rooney playing together, it is an enticing spectacle.

“However tomorrow is an opportunity for all the of the players to display their qualities.

The veteran coach who has previously managed both Inter and Udinese has lastly been quizzed upon whether he has fond memories of working in Italy.

“I experienced some beautiful moments in Italy but certainly the biggest thrill was when Inter offered me the job.”
