Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini could not fault his players as he believes the Rosanero did all that they could to win despite a 0-0 draw with Empoli on Sunday.

The Sicilian side were held by a Maurizio Sarri’s stubborn Azzurri, but the tactician believes his players did what was asked of them despite their inability to find the back of the net.

“It was a great match,” he told Radio Rai after the match.

“We had a great first half but we weren’t clinical in front of goal. We tried everything but you must be careful not to concede against Empoli as they can cause damage on the counter.

“Three man defence? Numbers are for those that interpret them: what matters is how it is interpreted.

“The squad always looks for a result through their play.

“[Maurizio] Zamparini is not happy? No, he is happy. He tries to keep us focused to ensure the tension does not drop.

“Every now and then you need a high challenge in order to keep the tension up.”
