Lorenzo Insigne NapoliNapoli striker Lorenzo Insigne is set to return after almost a four months on the sidelines through recovery injury.

The 23-year-old Italy international tore his anterior cruciate ligaments in the clash against Fiorentina last November and has been out of action ever since.

The player then underwent surgery and was expected to recover in only six months, which would have been the normal recovery time for such an injury.

However, Sky Sport Italia report that the player was given the green light by his surgeon, Pier Paolo Mariani, and is now expected to return to train with his teammates.

Reportedly the player underwent a series of tests in the clinic of Rome, having procured excellent results.

Insgine’s agent Fabio Andreotti expressed his surprise at how quickly the player recovered.

“His surgeon, Dr. Mariani, said that his knee looks like it was never operated at all,” he said to Radio Kiss Kiss.

“After today’s visit, I’m certain we’ll see him on the pitch with his teammates soon.

“He trained twice a week, a recovery program that never ceased, not even for Christmas. His recovery is almost incredible.

“It’s been a mere three months and twenty days since the injury, and Lorenzo has proved that he was keen to return to his team.

“In every bad experience there is something to be learnt for the future and I think he will emerge from this stronger, both mentally as well as physically.”
