Inter midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has targeted challenging for the Serie A title next season and a return to the successes of the treble-winning side in 2010.

However, the Nerazzurri have managed just two draws in their last six competitive matches and are tenth in the standings after a 1-0 loss at Sampdoria last Sunday.

“I am convinced that we can get back on top at Inter, to where the team was not too many years ago,” the 23-year-old told the Basler Zeitung.

“We want to and we will be able to compete for the Scudetto next season.”

Shaqiri also spoke about his ambitions for Switzerland ahead of a Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia in Lucerne on Friday and a friendly against the United States in Zurich four days later.

“Our model needs to be Belgium,” he continued.

“We have a phenomenal generation that can compete better against the more historically established national teams.

“[Vladimir] Petkovic knows how to put in place very aggressive teams and this is good for the type of player that I am.”
