Kovacic - Chievo v InterInter midfielder Mateo Kovacic will stay at the club, despite interest from prodigious English club Liverpool.

The 20-year-old Croatian international has impressed the Merseyside club in recent weeks, with Brendan Rodgers preparing a summer bid to bolster his attacking options.

However, The Daily Mail are reporting the player has decided to stay at the San Siro and continue to develop under the stewardship of coach Roberto Mancini.

Kovacic recently signed an extension to his contract which will now expire in 2019.

The former Dinamo Zagreb favourite is currently sidelined with a knee ligament injury, an injury which forced the player to sit out of his country’s 5-1 mauling of Norway in Zagreb on Saturday evening.

Arsenal and Everton have sent scouts to watch Kovacic in the past, with both clubs monitoring the goalscoring midfielder’s progress in Serie A.

Kovacic has scored eight goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Nerazzurri this season.
