Kalidou Koulibaly NapoliNapoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly believes that a player will earn the most respect based off of their actions on the pitch.

The 23-year-old has taken up a key role in the Partenopei line up since his arrival from Genk last summer and he feels that a footballer should mainly focus on remaining humble while showcasing their talents instead of always trying to be the best on the field, while also playing well with their team-mates.

Koulibaly spoke to Vosges TV about the characteristics he feels a player should have and commented on the proper way to earn respect from your peers in the world’s largest sport.

“Respect is earned on the pitch, if you’re good then everyone else will follow,” said the Frenchman, following Napoli’s disappointing 1-0 loss to Torino on Sunday.

“It’s different if you think you’re the best and end up making a mistake, it will not work out the same way.

“You have to be generous with everyone else on the field so others will be the same with you.”
