Manchester United are reportedly ready to enter the battle for Torino defender Matteo Darmian with hopes of landing him this summer.

The 25-year-old, whose current contract with the Granata is set to expire in June 2017, has attracted the attention of multiple big clubs throughout Europe including Bayern Munich most recently, though it seems Louis van Gaal could be prepared to challenge the Bundesliga giants in the fight for the Il Toro talent’s signature.

According to the Express, Manchester United see the Italian international as a main target as they look to strengthen their defence in the coming months and could consider making a large bid for his services in order to knock Bayern out of the running for him.

Darmian, who arrived at Torino from Palermo in June 2011, has scored one goal in his 23 Serie A appearances this term thus far.

The right-back also delivered several impressive performances in the Europa League up until the Granata’s recent elimination from the competition, netting two goals and providing three assists in his 12 tournament appearances.
