Hellas Verona coach Andrea Mandorlini expressed his delight after the Gialloblu secured an important three points from their 2-1 victory over Cagliari as they continue quest to avoid relegation.

The Mastini outfit are now eight points clear of the relegation zone thanks to this crucial victory and the 54-year-old tactician has encouraged his side to build upon this impressive performance.

“We knew that today was going to a be a very tough match,” said Mandorlini to Sky Sport Italia.

“But in football anything can happen and the three points are absolutely vital for us.

“In terms of avoiding relegation, there is still a very long way to go and we should not let our guard down.

“We have AC Milan next Saturday which again will be difficult but this is an important step for us.”

The Verona coach chose to single out Luca Toni as a crucial player for his side after the striker got on the score-sheet once again and took his tally to 10 goals for the season.

“Luca is absolutely key for us. He brings with him experience, goals and an extraordinary presence.

“All I can say is ‘long live Luca Toni’, he is the one who makes the difference.”
