Name: Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore

Location: Piazzale Atleti Azzuri D’Italia, Reggio Emilia

Built: 1995

Capacity: 20,084

One of Italy’s more modern stadiums, the Mapei Stadium is traditionally home of Reggiana. Sassuolo however, are the new occupiers who will play their football here after moving from Modena’s home ground where they plied their trade last season.  Their own ground is still not up to Serie B standard never mind the top flight.

Located in the town of Reggio Emilia the stadium is 2.5km out of the city center but is well sign posted and easy to find. There is also easy access to the town from both Milan and Bologna.

Mapei Stadium

The Gentleman Ultra says…

This stadium is worth a visit to see what the differences are between some of the older stadiums in Italy and one of the newer attempts. The stadium allows the crowd to be on top of the players and does give the impression that there could be a good atmosphere here.

The main problem is that Sassuolo are ‘borrowing’ this stadium for two years and it is 30km from the fans home town. This would not normally prove too much of a problem but the team itself is a victim of its own success and its rapid rise is not represented by a large fan base.

The Ultras Sassuolo although loyal, are a small bunch and although loyal cannot create much of an atmosphere as the average crowd is just over 3,000.
