Fiorentina midfielder Mati Fernandez has revealed that he’s pleased with the amount of playing time he receives in coach Vincenzo Montella’s squad.

The 28-year-old has been able to earn a key role in the Viola team as an attacking midfielder, scoring two goals and providing six assists in his 21 Serie A appearances this term thus far, and he’s hoping that his continuity in league play will help him lead his country’s national team to success in the coming months.

Fernandez spoke to La Tercera about his satisfying situation at Fiorentina and commented on what he aims to achieve with Chile in the near future.

“It’s always an honour to be a part of the national team, especially at this time,” said the Chilean.

“I hope to be able to integrate immediately, train well and be able to give 100 per cent on the pitch.

“I’m very happy right now. In Florence I’ve been playing with continuity and thankfully I haven’t suffered any serious injuries.

“With Chile I expect to do well in these big games coming up as we prepare for the Copa America.”
