Aurelio De LaurentiisAmidst the Parma crisis, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has called for stricter rules on new club buyers.

Parma plunged into a dire financial crisis, after three different owners bought and sold the club, leaving the Ducali debt-ridden and on the brink of bankruptcy.

De Laurentiis expressed — on social media — the need for greater due diligence for new owners coming to invest in Serie A clubs.

“The problem is not whether or not to save a club on the brink of bankruptcy, but instead on how to protect football,” De Laurentiis said on his personal Twitter account.

“The Parma situation now requires us to better verify and revise the criteria for new owners coming into Serie A.”

Serie A clubs have agreed on a plan to save Parma, as well as the Ducali’s next home match against Atalanta been given the green light, after both their previous games had been postponed.
