New Marseille signing Lucas Ocampos has revealed he was a step away from signing with Fiorentina last month.
The 20-year-old Argentinian youth international moved to Marseille on loan from Monaco in January after finding limited playing time in the first half of the season at the Stade Louis.
Ocampos implied that Fiorentina opted to sign fringe Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah instead of him, but has no regrets about making the move to Marseille.
“I needed to leave Monaco, where I wasn’t playing much at all,” Ocampos told La Provence. “I had several options, among them was Fiorentina.”
“Everything looked like it was done with them, but the sale of [Juan] Cuadrado to Chelsea scuppered the whole operation.
“Today I’m happy to wear the jersey of a big club like Marseille.”
