Sampdoria striker Stefano Okaka has revealed that La Samp’s 2-1 away win over Atalanta on Sunday was crucial for the team’s morale after struggling for three points in recent weeks.

The Blucerchiati were able to snap their five-game winless streak in the Serie A by defeating the Orobici and the 25-year-old, who assisted Luis Muriel for the first goal and scored the second himself, hopes to see his club continue like this for the remainder of the season.

Okaka spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the important victory over Atalanta about Sampdoria’s performance throughout the game and their objectives for the campaign, while also commenting on the talent shown by team-mates Muriel and Samuel Eto’o.

“Today we earned an important result in a very crucial game,” said the Italian international.

“The past month had been quite stormy for us in many ways, we were stuck, but thanks to our great group of players we were able to overcome this away game.

“Eto’o and Muriel? They are quality players from the moment they enter the field, they immediately get the ball and try to give us an advantage.

“Today we have seen an example of that as we were able to largely dominate the game. It’s always a pleasure to play with players like that.

“We were also missing Eder today, but we are ready to stay on this right track and have a great finish to this season.

“Our objectives? Earning a place in Europe isn’t even a main concern. We just want to stay in the top half of the standings and continue fighting game after game like we’ve been doing.”
