Despite the recent stumbles, Palermo boss Giuseppe Iachini has firmly stated that his side are worthy of their position in the Serie A table.

Iachini’s men are winless in their previous four league games and currently sit in 11th place in the league table on 35 points, a massive ten points behind fifth place and the final European qualification spot, currently occupied by Fiorentina.

“I believe that all our employees and even the journalists have understood from the beginning that the work we are doing both individually and collectively is only worthy of praise,” said the 50-year-old at a press conference.

“That someone may have a different assessment of our work does not affect us. Maybe we deserve a few more points, but there are ups and downs in the championship, a bit like the sea waves.”

The former Chievo and Sampdoria boss also suggested he would approach the upcoming away fixture against Chievo, who are unbeaten in their previous three Serie A games, with the utmost caution.

“We must be careful against Chievo as they are a team who can create difficulties for anyone, like they did to Roma and Sampdoria.

“We are considering several options,” he went on. “We will see the conditions of some players but a lot will also depend on the players’ attitude on the field.”

The Palermo boss also remains undecided whether to field two or three attacking options against the Flying Donkeys on Saturday evening at the Stadio Bentegodi in Chievo.

“I’m thinking about a different tactical set up, whether to deploy two or three front men. And our goal is to take as many points as possible until the end of the season.”

Iachini, who both played, as well as coached the Gialloblu, admitted he still has fond memories of the city, the people and the surroundings.

“Chievo was a milestone in my career. I left the city with very good relations with the whole environment. And normally I’m very happy to go back to a place where I did well,” he concluded.
