A goal either side of half time was enough for Torino to pile on more pressure to the struggling outfit with goals from Maxi Lopez and Migjen Basha, as the Granata beat Parma 2-0 on Sunday evening in Serie A at Stadio Ennio Tardini.

Lopez opened the scoring in the 19th minute after cutting in neatly and slotting the ball into the net, the Argentinian forward almost had his hard work undone less than ten minutes later, as Ishak Belfodil had a chance to pull the game back for the home side but fired high.

Ten minutes from the end of the first half, defender Alessandro Lucarelli was given his marching orders after arguing with the referee Maurizio Mariani’s decision to show him yellow for a rash challenge, ultimately proving to be costly for the Gialloblu.

Midfielder Antonio Nocerino had the first opportunity after just five minutes into the game, but he failed to connect well with the cross.

The home side then had what seemed to be another glaring chance, when Belfodil found him self through on goal in front of Padelli, yet he wasted the chance before being correctly called for offside.

Parma’s misfortune in front of goal was shortly after punished after Fabio Quagliarella threaded through a pass from within his own half for the on-running Maxi Lopez, who took the ball in his stride running past the opposing defence before doing well to place the ball in the bottom right corner from a tight angle

As the first half went on things quickly became more heated, and Lucarelli shortly found himself seeing red seconds after receiving the first yellow of the match due to a poorly timed tackle. Instead of accepting the card the defender began to argue with the referee, resulting in his sending off.

That was a sign of things to come as six more yellow cards were dished out during the course of the game, with both sides battling tooth and limb for the next goal, resulting in several confrontations between players.

The home side had the chance to equalise early in the second half, Belfodil once again unlucky in front of goal smacking the post, meaning he is still to go searching for his first goal in Serie A this season.

Giampiero Ventura began to show signs of frustration as his side failed to use their numerical advantage. However, his worries were soon put to rest as an unmarked Basha headed in Torino’s second.

Abdelkader Ghezzal came close to pulling a goal back, but in the end nodded a weak effort towards Padelli.

Parma continued to look for a way back into the game but did little to trouble the man between the sticks, and yet despite the two goal lead Il Toro showed no signs of slowing down, seeking a third goal with numerous attacks during the dying stages, they had to settle for just two goals.

The win sees Torino sit in seventh place, ahead of AC Milan and Inter, with Parma now without a win in 10 games, rooted at the bottom of the Serie A table with only nine points.
