Salvatore Sirigu ItalyItaly goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu insists the Azzurri must cut down on certain errors or run the risk of being punished after their 2-2 draw against Bulgaria in Euro 2016 qualifiying on Saturday night.

The 28-year-old strapped on the gloves in place of an ill Gianluigi Buffon and conceded two well worked goals by a defiant Bulgarian side, though the Paris Saint-Germain shotstopper believes the Azzurri must continue to work to avoid conceding similar strikes in the future.

“We must avoid certain errors in international matches or we will pay dearly,” said Sirigu to Rai Italia.

“Then we did well and created many chances on goal. Looking past our finishing, we are succeeding in creating chances throughout the game and doing what we practised in training.”

Sirigu also commented on the value of including foreign born players within the Azzurri squad, particularly Eder, who rescued a point by scoring a spectacular equalizing goal on his Italy debut.

“If you can call up these players, then why not do it?.

“In other national teams this happens from time to time with normality.

“Eder has lived for some time here and loves our country and our culture.”
